Damp and mould in properties
During the colder months, rental properties become more susceptible to damp and mould due to increased condensation and our wet Scottish climate.
We can implement several measures to prevent damp and mould from becoming an issue by:
- Carrying out regular property visits
- Make sure any repairs are carried out as soon as possible, particularly leaks, poor insulation or inadequate ventilation
- Encourage tenants to report concerns promptly and provide guidance on reducing moisture in their home
- Energy efficiency improvements like upgrading insulation and heating systems to help prevent condensation and mould
- Carry out checks once a repair has been carried out to ensure the issue doesn’t return
Damp and mould can be an ongoing challenge for property owners, agents and tenants but with proactive management and communication, such issues can be minimised.
